There will be no Creston auction on Saturday, February 5 because both Bobby Ray Starcher and his daughter Carol are on the sick list.

There will be a St. Valentine's Day karaoke and dance Saturday February 12 at 6 P.M. at the Creston Community Building.

Matthew Copen went to the emergency room and is off work. It had been noted that he has been looking pretty pale lately.

Jeff, Alley Oop and Austin Westfall were calling on C. Glen Arthur and Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell and family. Also calling on the Ferrells was Mary Reno.

A big long tailed black cat, the kind that the DNR says is not around here, was seen chasing an injured deer on the West Fork Friday January 28. The kitty was the size of a German Shepard dog.

The local area received some more snow along with colder weather. While there were difficulties elsewhere, locally it was just routine winter weather.

Nancy & Jane Engelke along with Susan Myers and Cosmo went to market in Atlanta to purchase items for Jane's store. They reported an ice storm there that shut the city down. Cosmo had a great time at the market, made lots of new friends and had many new and interesting experiences.

Because of bad roads in a neighboring county, Rev. Carlos Nutter did not fill his regular fifth Sunday appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church.

Some folks involved with the water line extension have been calling on Burning Springs residents. One said there would be a water line in the area by fall.

Donna Sue Ferrell was calling on Helen Nutter at the Nut Hut. Plans are in the works for a new community friendship quilt.

Bernelle Hicks, the V. A. lady, was calling on Charles & Euell Russell. She also consulted with Bessie Arthur and D. S. Ferrell.

The Taylor timber crew that had been using the Hipp logging equipment finished up their job out on the hill and, it is reported, left a big mess.

George & Cynthia Engelke were visiting at the Alvin Engelke residence Saturday evening. He had business in Falls Church, Virginia and Green Belt Maryland. She got to eat rutabaga for the first time which was a good trade for some fine home made bread that they fetched along.

It was announced that Tara Settle, the comely redhead, will be getting hitched to Jayson "Hoss" Donley on March 5.

Jackie Sue Boggs and Jeffrey David Blair announced that they will be tying the knot on April 23.

Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell were attending to business in Grantsville and talked with Mr. & Mrs. Larry Dawson.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil fell $1.50 to $44/bbl over the weekend. It was noted that the gasoline prices have not fallen. Although the local price is always below the world price the local area has gasoline prices often 30 cents/ gallon higher than in areas that have neither oil nor refineries. The price of area natural gas has been about $6.47 with propane at 74 cents/gallon and butane at 90 cents while drip gas (mountain high test) fetched $1.04/gallon.

Columbia Natural Resources and other big outfits are lining up more areas for deep well drilling including some areas that currently do not have pipelines. Recently there was a hearing in the Columbia lawsuit (the fraud case) at Grantsville and the company had the court room cleared of spectators. Some folks just do not like bright lights to shine upon them.

It is understood that some out of state concerns are planning some big strip mines in the central part of the state.

Little Lilly, who had been on the sick list, is much better now after consulting with Dr. Cain and is able to run and play.

The other Saturday when it was icy one local fellow couldn't get to Southern States in Spencer to get cat food. An emergency supply was purchased at a supermarket but the cats made it clear that they would almost rather eat snowballs than the city slicker cat food.

Dorine Parsons went to Grantsville to an auction and bid on a baby bed.
