CONTEST SPARSE IN GRANTSVILLE ELECTION - January Council Meeting Reported

Mayor Neil Blankenship was the only candidate filing for Grantsville mayor as of yesterday, according to Town Recorder Phyllis Maze.

Three individuals have filed for council, incumbents Charlie Whipkey and Cheryl Davis, and newcomer Gaylen Duskey.

Candidates can file today at the town office, but can still file Saturday if candidacy papers are notarized and mailed.

During January's council meeting, Del. Bill Stemple presented a check to the town for $5,000 to purchase a backhoe.

Jim Morris reported for the Town Hall Committee, with the next meeting of the committee scheduled for January 31 at 7 p.m.

Nancy Bremar asked that rock be placed in a hole on Pine Street.

Council made a decision to offer for sale the town's old police Jeep.

Besides Mayor Blankenship, council members present were Keith Smith, Loretta Stevens, Charles Whipkey and Cheryl Davis. Absent was JoAnn Stevens.
