HAZARDOUS ROADS CAUSE FIVE ACCIDENTS - Forecast Sounds Pretty Bad

Calhoun roads have been very hazardous during the past 24-hours, with at least six accidents reported.

A new winter episode is expected to cross the area today after midnight Friday, bringing freezing rain, snow and ice.

Saturday night the temperature will drop to 13.

Roads have been snow and ice covered through yesterday afternoon when the sun did some melting, although all back roads are still dangerous.

Calhoun Control reported two wrecks on Rt. 16 south of Arnoldsburg Thursday night. a pickup truck received heavy damage when it went over an embankment and struck a tree and a car went over the hill, lodging against a tree. Both vehicles landed a short distance from the West Fork of the LK. No one was reported as being injured in either accident.

Calhoun EMS and the Upper West Fork VFD responded to an accident about 9 a.m. Friday on Euclid-Nicut Road, where a car struck a tree. Sheriff Carl Ballengee investigated.

A Waste Management truck and a car collided on White Pine Road Friday afternoon. Sgt. Darrin Campbell investigated. There were no injuries.

A minor two car collision at Hospital Road and Rt. 16 in Grantsville was reported Friday evening.

Trooper lst Class Jeff Hunt and Chief Deputy Ron Bandy spent considerable time Friday night looking for a Wilsie, Braxton County woman who was reported to be late returning to her residence, after leaving work at Roane General Hospital. She reported in early Friday morning from Big Otter.
