Herbert S. Stewart, 77, of Parkersburg died Jan. 17, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1927, in Calhoun County, a son of the late Jennings R. and Lurline Arthur Stewart. He retired from Elkem Metals and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Sportsman Club, OCA Union member and took interest in Little League baseball for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Janita C. Platt Stewart; two sons, Michael D. Stewart and wife, Beverly, of Parkersburg and Herbert "Lanny" Stewart and wife, Terry, of Malden, Mo.; two daughters, Crystal E.Hively and husband, Dan, of Washington, W.Va., and Laura P. Stewart of Orlando, Fla.

Eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jennings R. Stewart Jr. of Murraysville, W.Va., Ervin Stewart of Barberton, Ohio, and Jack R. Stewart of Mineral Wells; two sisters, Dolly Dawson of Nitro, W.Va., and Louise Reynolds of Barberton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianne Sue Stewart Mackey; one brother, William C. Stewart; and sister, Nellie Stewart Cunningham.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Sharon West officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
