Leona M. Bailes - Formerly of Parkersburg

Leona M. Bailes, 87, formerly of Parkersburg, died January 16, 2005 in Port Charlotte FL. She was born March 23, 1917 in New Orleans LA. She was the daughter of the late Percy Joseph and Annalite Leocadie Ragas Malouse. She was married to Okey Bailes, who preceded her in death.

Lee attended New Orleans parochial schools, and Mountain State College. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII, working in defense plants in New Orleans and San Francisco. During her time in Parkersburg, she attended 7th St. EUB Church, was a Girl Scout Leader and a member of Clara Edna Chapter #140, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her children, Susan (Jack) Slonager of Port Charlotte FL, Robert (Dena) Bailes or Social Circle GA, and Diana Ludwig of Elizabeth WV; grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Bailes, Lt. Laurie (Pete) Basabe USN, Corbie (Stephen) Reddick, Joshua (Janice) Bailes and Daniel Ludwig; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Helaine Dunn of Mobile AL, and one nephew, Francis Dunn. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and a source of great pride.

A memorial service will be held February 5th in Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, PO Box 1762, Parkesburg WV 26102, where they will be directed to causes near to Lee's heart.
