Five Spencer residents are homeless after a fire erupted at a mobile home on Colt Ridge, a short distance from the town.

James Good, Shawna May and three small children escaped from the dwelling yesterday morning.

Good was reportedly thawing water lines with a kerosene heater when the structure ignited. It was described as a total loss.

The Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department went to the scene at 10 a.m.

The couple have three children ages five months, five years and seven years.
