HUNTINGTON POLICEMAN SHOT - A Huntington police officer is recovering after being shot while working undercover. Corporal Darin Dempsey was shot in the leg after pulling his motorcycle into the parking lot of a vacant gas station.

The shooting suspects were described as two black males. Dempsey said that he had gotten off his motorcycle when the men walked by and yelled something at him and opened fire. He said they likely saw a police emblem on his helmet. He returned fire, but they ran away.

DRUG DEAL SQUABBLE - Kanawha County deputies arrested 19-year-old Billy Escue at the Super-8 Motel in Dunbar, after he called 911 to turn himself in. Escue is charged with Sunday's shooting of Sam Ranson of Campbell's Creek Road. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Breck Garden Apartments in Cross Lanes.

Police say the two men were acquainted with one another, and agreed to meet in the parking lot. Witnesses told police the two were engaged in a drug deal. Ranson remains in the hospital.

STOLEN CHURCH VAN USED IN HOLDUP - The Wayne County Sheriff's Department reports a stolen church van was used during the armed robbery of a convenience store in Lavalette. The 1987 Ford that seats about 15 passengers was taken from Crossroads Baptist Church in Huntington.

The pastor says two men hopped in, hot wired it, and drove off. Police are still on the lookout for the suspects, who made off with cash.
