SUNDAY HUNTING LEGAL IN ALL COUNTIES - Other Rules Given

The Sunday Hunting Bill (HB 2146) was signed by Gov. Wise on April 30, 2001 after passing both the Senate and House. It will go into effect on July 13, 2001. It provides for Sunday hunting under the following conditions:

1) Hunting on Sundays will be open in all of WV's 55 counties beginning July 13, 2001. Should any County Commission wish to place the question of continuing Sunday hunting in their respective county to a vote then they may do so. Only a simple majority is required to continue or discontinue Sunday hunting. (There are some restrictions on how often these votes can occur)

2) No Sunday hunting the Sunday before firearms deer, antlerless deer, muzzleloader deer, bear gun, spring gobbler and the second half of fall wild turkey season.

3) Hunting on private lands only, with written permission from landowner to be carried at all times.

4) No hunting on public lands, this includes National Forests and WMA's.
