SCHOOL BOARD HOLDS TWO EXPULSION HEARINGS - Beall Resigns As Band Director

The Calhoun Board of Education had two expulsion hearings Monday evening. The board went into executive session to deal with the matter.

One student was expelled for the remainder of the current semester with mandatory monthly drug testing and counseling, with the board voting unanimously.

Another student was given the choice of one calendar year expulsion or expulsion for the remainder of this school year with mandatory monthly drug testing and counseling. Motion carried unanimously.

Calhoun Middle-High School's band director Harry Beall resigned.

Emilio Garza, Calhoun Middle/High School principal, presented a letter from the Calhoun Middle/High School faculty concerning make up of time for inclement weather for professional staff.

Earlene Thomas, band booster president, addressed the board concerning the middle/high school band program.

Carlene Frederick reported on the November 17, 2004 RESA meeting and Don Harris reported on the November 30, CGCC meeting.

Connie Roberts, Director of Finance, gave a 2004 audit report and Ron Blankenship reviewed the fourth month attendance report.

The following new business items were approved:

A. Volunteer Agreement - Derek Metz - Calhoun Middle/High School

B. Out of State Transportation Request - Washington State Community College, Marietta, Ohio - January 10, 2005

C. MIP for SBA

D. Procedures for Assignment to Schools

Retirements and resignations: Daniel Beall - Band Director and Nancy Whipkey- Substitute Cook

Employment: Teresa Goodnight - Counselor, Melody Downs - Substitute Teacher, Nancy Kirby - Tutor.

Finances approved: Invoices $239,828; Supplements $85,418.86; Transfers $ 71,457.19; Monthly Financial Statement - November 2004

The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 18, 2005 at the Office of the Superintendent at Mt. Zion, West Virginia.
