CHARLESTON CHEERLEADER SHOT IN BACK - Charleston police have arrested a 16-year-old boy after a 17-year-old So. Charleston High School cheerleader was shot in her back while driving her car in North Charleston.

Sarah Myers remained in the intensive care unit yesterday at Charleston Area Medical Center's General Division.

"Several juveniles were in a vehicle driving down the road," said Sgt. S.A. Cooper of the Charleston Police Department. "One was shot in the back in the vehicle. Details are still being investigated. A gun went off, and someone was hurt."

South Charleston High School Principal William Walton said extra counselors were called to the school yesterday to talk with the girl's friends.

"We have done all we can do," Walton said. "It is tragic. She is one of our cheerleaders. She is a nice little girl. I know she is involved in her church a lot. She's a fine young lady. She is a typical teenager, a good student and a great kid."

The men were part of a five-person group that set up Townsend for the robbery by ordering two pizzas, buffalo wings and some soda from Townsend's employer, Gino's Pizza & Spaghetti House.

KANAWHA DEPUTY CONVICTED OF MURDER - A jury has convicted a former Kanawha County sheriff's deputy of the second degree murder of a Sissonville man.

Wade Davis fatally stabbed 18-year-old Michael Lattea outside of a Sissonville convenience store in March 2003.

Davis resigned in 1998 after he accidentally shot another sheriff's deputy in the parking lot of a Raleigh County motel.
