Jerald Newell, Jr., 83, of Orma

Jerald Newell, Jr., 83, of Orma, died Dec. 10, 2004 at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Orma, except when he served as a medic in World War II.

Born at Orma, he was the son of the late Gerald and Maude Schartiger Newell.

He was a carpenter having built two homes for his family and helped three children establish their homes. He remodeled several homes to support his family.

He served as a guard at Moundsville Penitentiary and was also employed by the Department of Highways. He had been an employee of Monarch Rubber Company in Spencer for 27 years.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Cleora Lawson Newell; sons, John Newell of Chloe and Paul Newell of Orma; daughter, Linda Badgett of Minnora.

Three brothers, Harry of Orma, Donald of Hartville, Ohio and Leon of Mogodore, Ohio; sisters, Emogene Robinson of Tanner and Ellodene Yerkey of New Stanton PA; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Harold Newell and an aunt, Mae Newell McKown.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg with the Rev. Denzil Lawson officiating. Interment in Orma UM Cemetery.

Visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday.
