HIGH WINDS DOWN FIBER OPTIC CABLE - Hur Herald And Internet Service Disrupted

(12/09/2004)
A fiber-optic cable that was knocked-out near Clarksburg disrupted dial-up internet service in the area, including the production of the Hur Herald for Friday.

The problem came about from winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour.

Service was restored to the area after being out for more than 12 hours.

Also disrupted was some cell and long distance phone service.

An outage occurred about 4 p.m. yesterday when high winds produced by a fast-moving cold front caused a power line to come into contact with a Verizon fiber optic cable.
