PLEASANT HILL TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN READING STUDY

(11/24/2004)
A small group of teachers at Pleasant Hill School expanded their reading knowledge by participating in an after school book study.

Jackie Shimer, Reading Mentor Teacher, selected Debbie Miller's book Reading with Meaning: Teaching Comprehension in the Primary Grades as the first text.

The study engaged teachers to implement new strategies in the classroom and provided confirmation of strategies currently being used to teach reading comprehension.

The group plans to read another professional book after the holidays. The participants include Gina Freed, Becky Miller, Jackie Shimer, and Kathy Wood.

Reading First, a federal K-3 reading grant, funds the studies.
