SPENCER FILM FEST SHOWING "CONTROL ROOM" DEC.. 2

(11/20/2004)
The Spencer Film Fest continues at 7 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 2, at the Committee on Aging Building in downtown Spencer, with the free presentation of "Control Room."

This engaging, 84-minute documentary, the fourth in the festival series, examines Arab news network Al Jazeera's coverage of the war in Iraq. One of the first words uttered is "propaganda." The questions of who controls the "truth" and who creates "news" are central to this film.

Newsday says this is "The most profound work to date on how our government has manipulated news coverage in Iraq."

The Spencer Film Fest is organized by the Roane-Calhoun Peace Coalition. At all presentations, which are free and open to the public, free refreshments are served. People are encouraged to bring snacks to share.
