Two state deputy sheriff's have experienced close calls recently.

A Mason County Deputy Sheriff is recovering after being shot by a 16-year-old boy Tuesday night.

He has been in serious condition.

Sgt. Troy Stewart was shot while he was talking to a juvenile about a case. The alleged shooter fired the shot from inside a house.

Sgt. Stewart was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington and was taken into surgery to repair extensive damage to his arm.

No motive has been given for the shooting.

In a separate but possibly related Mason County incident, a Point Pleasant teenager was taken into custody Monday after allegedly bringing a gun onto a school bus.

State Police in Clay County have yet to serve warrants for two men for assaulting an off-duty Calhoun County deputy sheriff three weeks ago.

Rodney Jarvis of Chloe has been charged with malicious assault, a felony, and leaving the scene of an accident where a person was injured.

Robert James King of Clay has been charged with battery and brandishing.

Deputy Ron Bandy was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center after he was attacked and run over by a car in front of Froggy's Lounge at Big Otter.

Trooper B. J. Wriston said Bandy was trying to get Robert King in the passenger side of a Ford Mustang, when King turned and struck Bandy in the face.

"Rodney Jarvis put the Mustang in reverse knocking Deputy Bandy to the ground," said the officer, after which he continued to back up, running over Bandy's legs.

The officer said Jarvis then drove the vehicle forward and ran over Bandy again.

Jarvis, King and a third man identified as Robert Greathouse then left the scene, said Wriston.

One of the subjects returned to the scene, firing a gun.

Deputy Bandy is recovering from his injuries at home.
