BUSH CARRIES CALHOUN FOR SECOND TIME - Manchin In, Capito Defeats Wells

President George W. Bush carried Calhoun for the second time, defeating John Kerry - 1,569 to 1,253. Ralph Nader received 25 votes and Michael Badnarik received 10 votes.

In a relatively close race, incumbent Shelly Moore Captio (Republican) defeated Erik Wells (Democrat) 1,497 to 1,301. Julian Martin of the Mountain party received 61 votes.

In the governor's race, Democrat candidate Joe Manchin III easily defeated Republican candidate Monty Warner 1,936 to 789. Mountain Party candidate Jesse Johnson received 129 votes.

For Secretary of State, Ken Heckler (Democrat) defeated Betty Ireland (Republican) 1,515 to 1,282.

Glen Gainer III (Democrat) defeated Lisa Thornburg (Republican) 2,036 to 700 for Auditor.

John Perdue (Democrat) 1,812 to Bob Adams (Republican) 826 for Treasurer.

Commissioner of Agriculture Gus Douglas (Democrat) 1,980 to Andrew Yost (Republican) 754.

Attorney General race, Darrell McGraw (Democrat) 1,578 to Hiram Lewis (Republican) 1,164.

In a tightly contested race for Supreme Court, Warren McGraw (Democrat) 1,394 to Brent Benjamin (Republican) 1,338.

For State Senate, Jeff Kessler (Democrat) 1,683 to Russ Snyder (Republican) 903.
