THOUSANDS OF DEER HUNTERS WILL DESCEND ON SUNNY CAL - Autos In Season For "Dodge The Deer"

(10/21/2004)
Several thousand out-of-state and out-of-area deer hunters will come to Sunny Cal's woods starting November 22nd.

Autos are coming in season as area residents will play "Dodge the Deer" as the annual rutting season begins.

At least 350,000 hunters in West Virginia will seek deer kill during the extended hunting season.

The two-week bucks-only deer firearms season begins November 22nd and runs through December 4th.

The Division of Natural Resources estimates that deer hunters pour $248 million dollars annually into the state's economy.

Only Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming counties are closed to deer hunting during the bucks-only firearms season. Those counties are also closed during the 21-day antlerless season.

The first period of the antlerless season also begins on November 22nd and will run concurrently with the bucks-only season, but hunting is limited to private land.

The second period opens on December 6th and continues through December 11th on both private and public land.

A third private land-only antlerless deer hunt will run from December 29th through the 31st.
