It was a game of highs and lows for Calhoun County with the lows winning out in the end as Roane County scored late on a couple of long-distance plays to hand the Red Devils a 33-20 homecoming loss Friday night.

After allowing Roane County to jump out to what seemed an easy 20-0 lead Calhoun began a fast and furious comeback late in the first half that had Roane reeling and the Red Devils nearly taking command. Three quick Justin Price touchdowns - from 85, 38 and three yards - forged a 20-20 tie at intermission.

The Red Devils continued to battle in the third quarter and the score remained knotted going into the final period.

Then the Raiders scored from long distance.

First Eddie Williams got behind the Calhoun secondary and scored from 36 yards out. That made the score 27-20 and it was still a game. The straw that broke the Red Devils' back came with about five minutes remaining when Roane tailback John Workman appeared to be stopped at the line only to keep digging before breaking loose and scoring from 54 yards out. That tally gave the Raiders a lead that proved to be insurmountable.

Calhoun did not give up and was moving the ball at the end when a pass interception snuffed out its last gasp.

With the win Roane goes to 4-4 on the season while Calhoun drops to 3-4 heading into next Friday night's game at Wirt County.
