James Larry Reed, 57, of Whittman, Arizona, died Sunday, October 10, 2004, at his home. He was born May 9, 1947, at Walton, the son of Clara Helper Carper of Walton and the late James Arville Reed. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ralph Carper; maternal grandparents, Cyrus and Zubie Taylor Helper. Mr. Reed was a self employed contractor, member of the Operating Engineers and an Army veteran. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Avis "Susie" Cummings of Walton; one brother, Lewis Summers of Walton; nephew, Ben Cummings; nieces, Becky Rogers, Lori Summers, Sara Stricklen and Suzanne Cummings King. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, October 17 at 2 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Michael F. "Mike" King officiating.
