James Douglas Bateman, 44 - Spencer

James Douglas Bateman, 44, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Monday, October 4, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born April 10, 1960, in Kanawha County a son of Jimmie George Bateman of Danville and Lula Bell Dunlap Bateman Freeman of Spencer.

Mr. Bateman was a former employee of Burke Parsons and Bowlby, Billings. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by, two brothers, Dempsey Bateman of Parker, PA and Earl Bateman of Spencer; five sisters, Patty Carper, Lisa Crislip, Phyllis Hardman and Brenda Bateman all of Spencer, Roberta Bateman of Arnoldsburg; two step brothers, Paul Allen and Jimmie Freeman both of Gallipolis Ferry; one step sister, Alice Norris of Gallipolis Ferry; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Bateman; step father, James Paul Freeman; step brother, Paul Junior Freeman.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, October 8 at 11 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Drawdy Cemetery, Drawdy Mountain.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, October 7 from 6-9 p.m.
