COMMISSIONERS HEAR AUDITOR'S REPORT - County In Black Fiscal 2002-03

(10/05/2004)
The county commissioners reviewed the 2002-03 audit with the state auditor's office at yesterday's meeting.

The commission ended that fiscal year $75,000 in the black, according to commission president Larry McCallister.

"It was a really good year in balancing the budget," said McCallister.

The auditor told the commissioners there were no significant problems with the audit, but outlined a number of procedural issues that needed improvement.

The Commission approved an employee handbook change related to giving the sheriff discretion with the salary of a deputy, provided it remains within constraints of the sheriff's budget.

A draw down of $9,115 was approved for the Back Fork/Yellow Creek water project at the request of Tim Meeks of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council.

The Commission voted to close an abandoned county road not taken over by the Department of Highways at the request of Robert and Shelia Caim of Creston.

County Clerk Richard Kirby reviewed election items with the commissioners McCallister, Sampson and Weaver.

A training session for poll workers is scheduled for October 7 at 7 p.m.

Absentee voting begins October 13, the same day voter registration concludes," said Kirby.

The commission will test the vote counting machine on October 28 at 10 a.m.

Kirby gave a progress report on the new 911 Center at Mt. Zion, indicating the building must include some requirements mandated by the State Fire Marshal's office.
