(09/18/2004)
Massey Coal has been ordered to pay one-and-a-half million dollars to 245 Mingo County residents whose water wells disappeared after the company began mining under their homes.

A Mingo County jury's verdict came yesterday following six weeks of testimony and 40 hours of deliberation.

Last May the jurors found that Massey was responsible for damaging the underground water supplies.
