PARKERSBURG-ELIZABETH TRAVELERS: ROUTE 5 WIRT COUNTY WILL BE CLOSED - Alternate Detours Will Be Posted

Short Span Structure on WV 5 at MP 4.43 will be closed at 7 PM today to all traffic.

The closure is near the intersection of Munday Road and Rt. 5 in Wirt County, four miles east of Elizabeth.

The continued deterioration of the cutstone culvert and slab structure and the impending rains from hurricane Ivan has caused the culvert to be closed for safety reasons.

DOH officials in Wirt are carefully watching the collapsing culvert under it is closed tonight.

All superload permits over this structure will be stopped immediately, according to Cliff Essig, Assistant District Engineer for Bridges.

Detour routing and signing, using existing routes, is being prepared presently. Wirt Co. personal are watching the structure, until it is closed.

School bus routes will be detoured detoured.

Some Calhoun residents might be advised to go via Rt. 47 for access to Parkersburg.
