$20 MILLION LOSS TO KANAWHA ECONOMY - Layoffs Strike South Charleston Plant

Layoffs will mean a $20 million loss to the Kanawha County economy. Mayflower Vehicle Systems Inc. will be laying off a large part of its work force, about 375 employees. Richard Fix, plant manager, said the average wage of the workers is $17.10 an hour with another $8 in benefits. That comes to about $52,208 per worker per year.
