SENATOR ROSS FACING ETHICS CHARGES - $750,000 Taxpayer Funds For Golf Tournament

ROSS AND I. L. MORRIS INVESTED $7 MILLION IN CLUB

The Ethics Commission suspects a WV state senator could have violated the law when he voted to send $750,000 in state funds to a Clarksburg golf course.

Well known oil and gas businessman, State Senator Mike Ross of Randolph County, obtained the development money after he helped finance the purchase of the golf course.

The Ethics Commission has found enough evidence to hold a November hearing.

Ross helped pass a bill this year that provided the $750,000 to help promote the Pete Dye West Virginia Classic held last month.

In exchange, Ross and a friend, Gilmer County businessman I. L. Morris, enjoy free and unlimited access to the golf course and club, including its restaurant, bar and pro shop.

They loaned the golf club more than seven million dollars.

The state's Ethics Act requires disclosure of most loans of that size and also requires disclosure of gifts worth more than 500 dollars.
