| Ophard "Shorty" Hathaway, 93, of Zebulon, Georgia, formerly of Grantsville and Parkersburg, passed away August 15, 2004 at Riverside Nursing center, Thomaston, Georgia.
Born in Calhoun County, West Virginia, he was a son the late Ira D. "Doc" and Birtie Sturm Hathaway. He was retired form the Wood County Board of Education and was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Surviving are two brothers, Frank Hathaway of Elizabeth and Ira D. Hathaway of Florida; a sister, Mattie Sampson of Grantsville; step-daughter, Carolyn Erp Friend of Albany, Georgia; step-grandchildren are Mark Friend of Zebulon, Ruth Brashear of Albany; step-great-grandchildren are Jordon Friend and John Mark Friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Hathaway in 1982.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2004 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Rev. Carroll McCauley will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
