A church group was fixin' dinner Saturday afternoon at the Creston Community Building, with the big Saturday Night Sing to follow. The events got off kilter a little. Whilst setting up an abundance of fantastic food on which to dine, someone noticed a telltale sign of fire.

A quick inspection of the outside of the building revealed a night light had fallen from the structure, and a fire ignited the bone-dry siding from the heat of a lamp. The Elizabeth-Wirt VFD was summoned and firefighters Holly Parsons and Deputy Sheriff Lew Peck arrived first.

When the rest of the VFD came, a firemen cut the troublesome wires and taped them. After the fire scare, the group had their dinner and Creston still had its community building.
