Local residents are looking forward to all the fun activities at the Wirt County Fair which begins on August 11 and runs through Saturday evening down at Camp Barbe. A number of area residents attended the pageant Friday night when Amber Somerville was named queen. The choice was affirmed by the audience who gave Amber a standing ovation.

Robert Lynch has been a patient in a Parkersburg hospital suffering from pneumonia fever.

Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church.

The Creston Community held its regular meeting August 3 and nominated officers for the next year. The old slate was renominated and the election will be held at the September meeting. The Adopt A Highway cleanup was scheduled for August 21 and the Creston Homecoming will be on Sunday, August 15 from 1 until 4 in the afternoon. Last minute details for the homecoming were discussed and all those who come should find it worthwhile, fun and interesting.

It appears that the crew that cut all the big veneer logs on Beaver Dam has finished up but they have yet to repair the Ann's Run road which has places where automobiles drag. Whoever made the big bucks on the job could easily spend about 50 thou and repair the road and still have plenty of profit.

The "first annual" Creston Community Building yard sale was declared a winner with a respectable amount of money raised for the playground project. It certainly didn't hurt that Becky Starcher made yummy cinnamon rolls [which were ready for breakfast] and her mother, Bessie Arthur, made special Creston hot dog sauce.

The comely redhead reported that she received a dozen red roses at her work the other day. Apparently she was impressed that some one thought so much of her. The comely redheads brother was in charge of lights and sound at the fair pageant Friday night.

Kenny Grady the mailman who keeps his eye on all the lovely ladies took the Sassy Storekeeper to dinner on the occasion of a special birthday. However, she reported that the meal was "Dutch Treat". Kenny, for shame!

Mr. & Mrs. Ricky Tucker, Don Rhodes and Euell Russell were among those calling on C. Glen Arthur.

Euell Russell has been doing some work for Mr. & Mrs. Don Rhodes and Euell gave Don an easy chair.

The guardrail crew replaced a damaged rail at the Little Creek bridge.

Mr. & Mrs. Billy Butler and family were calling in Creston and sharing some of the bountiful harvest from their garden.

After the Ferrell family got back from their vacation the DMV sent them a permanent plate for their motor home. On the trip the motor mounts broke which required that the engine be chained in place and a nice fellow welded up the exhaust manifold so they could continue their trip. No one returned wearing any tracking devices so all went well. They noted a large number of Japanese tourists wherever they went and one had obviously studied spaghetti westerns to know how to properly hold and smoke cigarettes.

While the Ferrell family was away on vacation Aunt Doreen held down the fort, feeding the pets and looking after the neighbors (or so she said). Anyway she had a good time and left Creston with a big smile.

Nancy and Jane Engelke attended the Parkersburg Homecoming pageant Saturday evening at WVUP. Wirt County was also represented by the new fair queen Amber Somerville. The Bud Bell family tore down "the chicken house" which was the last building standing in the Germany section of Creston. Charles Russell reported that they planned to build a new home. Last year they had put a new metal roof on the structure and that was carefully removed. For many years the late E. E. Gibson rented the home to the Cottrell family, Bush & Hambone Garretson and many more.

The price of some natural gas fetched around six dollars while Allegheny, Dominion (Standard Oil Trust) Equitable, etc. are raising domestic rates up above the $10 per stripped MCF. Allegheny buys some gas for 20 cents so they should do well. The price of local crude oil fell to $40.75/bbl on Saturday.
