WV HAS NATIONS LOWEST VOTER TURNOUT

West Virginia ranks the worst in the nation for voter participation.

The U.s. Census Bureau reports that West Virginia had the lowest voter turnout in the USA in the 2002 elections.

Of 1,037,000 registered voters, 507,000 or 37 percent voted in 2002.

The national average was about 46 percent.

Nationally, a record number of people voted in the 2002 non-presidential election, with 89 million of 128 million people registered.

West Virginia has 60.3 percent of citizens registered to vote.

The highest voting rates were found in Minnesota and South Dakota, both with about 67 percent.

North Dakota and Maine topped the list of registered voters with more than 80 percent.
