STINSON WOMAN PARALYZED AFTER 4-WHEELER ACCIDENT

(07/27/2004)
A 57-year-old Stinson woman has survived a 14-hour ordeal after being pinned under a four-wheeler. She is continuing treatment in Charleston Area Medical Center and showing improvement.

Nancy Shelton Sigmon is suffering paralysis in her arms and legs from what appears to be a broken neck, according to her daughter Stephanie Metheney.

The family said they expect her to be taken off a respirator this week.

Sigmon was discovered under a four-wheeler in a wooded area near Route 16 early last Friday morning. Neighbors and firemen searched for the woman after she failed to return from berry picking.

"The family wants to thank our neighbors, the Upper West Fork and Big Otter Fire Departments and Calhoun and Clay EMS for all the help they gave," said daughter Stephanie Metheney. "We hope you keep her in your prayers."
