Evelyn L. Allen, 93, of Newton

Evelyn L. Allen, 93, of Newton, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, in the Miletree Center, Spencer.

She was born December 28, 1910, at Bloomington, a daughter of the late George C. and Clara H. Spencer Drake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry G. Allen; and one brother, James Drake.

Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and long time member of the Newton United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the U.M. Methodist Women, former church pianist since 1951, past Sunday School teacher for the Intermediate Group and Young People, and church secretary for several years.

She was also a member and secretary for the Farm Women; a 50 year member of the Spencer Rebekah Lodge No. 132, Spencer and a member of the Linden Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star, Linden.

Survivors include two sons, Franklin Allen of Spencer and Charles Allen of LaGrange, KY; one brother, Elber Drake of Boomer; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Michael F. "Mike" King officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
