Sheila Kay Ball, 55, of Elizabeth passed away July 4, 2004, at her residence after a battle with cancer.

She was born and raised in Kanawha County, the daughter of the late Hoy and Myrtle Fields Nichols.

Sheila was a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School in 1967 and Glenville State College in 1971. She was employed as a teacher with the Wirt County Board of Education for 33 years and had recently retired at the end of the school year. She was a member of the Mu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Sheila loved teaching children and "runnin'" to craft shows with her best friend, Pam Wendelken.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Ball, whom she married June 25, 1975; a sister-in-law and care-giver, Joyce Fitzwater and her husband, Lacy; a niece, Trisha Triplett and her husband, Roger, and their daughter, Tara; and a nephew, Dustin Fitzwater, all of Clay County. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Naomi Ball of Grantsville.

In addition to her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by her brother, Jarrell (Jerry) Wayne Nichols.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Dwight Goff officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Grantsville, W.Va. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
