WALTON GETS EMERGENCY WATER GRANT

(06/28/2004)
State Director Jenny Phillips today announced that Rural Development has approved grant funding in the amount of $95,000 for Walton Public Service District of Roane County. The assistance will be made through the rural utilities program.

Rural Development funds will be used to repair waterline and stream bank erosion to provide permanent protection of the District's waterline. Recent flooding has damaged a portion of the District's water distribution system and has exposed an 8-inch diameter waterline through land erosion.

"This erosion and subsequent rupturing of the water main caused an interruption of service to approximately 200 users," stated Phillips. "This project will remedy this emergency situation."

USDA Rural Development serves as the lead Federal entity for rural development needs and administers program assistance through its rural housing programs, rural business programs, and rural utilities programs.
