WEST VIRGINIA KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - "Gun In Face, I Gave Him Some Clear Choices"

(06/23/2004)
WAYNE COUNTY SHOOTING, TWO DEAD

A husband and wife were found shot to death this week in their Wayne County home.

The bodies of 39-year-old Randall Tawney and 42-year-old Vickie Tawney were discovered by a family member.

Sergeant M. L Watts says the deaths are still under investigation.

He says investigators are awaiting autopsy results from the state medical examiner's office in South Charleston.

STABBING AT CHARLESTON TOWN CENTER

Charleston Police Chief Jerry Pauley said he believes a stabbing at Charleston Town Center was an isolated incident and the mall's security measures are adequate.

Another stabbing was reported at the mall's food court earlier this year.

Christopher Vandale, 14, was stabbed with a pocketknife about 8:30 p.m. Monday on the second floor of the mall at the east end of the main walking area.

Police said the incident occurred after Vandale confronted 18-year-old John Tawney III because he believed Tawney had been talking about him. they had been fighting previously.

Tawney allegedly pulled a pocketknife and stabbed Vandale in the back three times, police said. He was held overnight at CAMC and released.

Tawney was charged with malicious wounding and was being held at South Central Regional Jail. Bond was set at $10,000.

GUN IN FACE "I GAVE HIM SOME CLEAR CHOICES"

A man demanded money at an East End Market in Charleston and the store's owner said he pointed a gun at the would-be robber and gave him some clear choices.

"I said 'OK, let me get the key,' " T&J Food Market owner Tony Shawkey said today. "I got my key all right, and I pointed it right at his face and said, 'Do you want to walk out or be carried out?' "

The suspect ran out of the store.

Police tracked the suspect, who was identified as Robert Russell, 38, of Sissonville Drive.

Russell was being held yesterday at South Central Regional Jail with bond set at $25,000.

Police said the suspect was not carrying a weapon.
