Area residents were shocked at the death of Bobbie Headley, age 70, who died suddenly from an aneurysm. A native of Little Creek he was retired from the Eureka Pipe Line Co. He and his late wife purchased the old Wysong house at the mouth of Stocking Run where they lived.

Colton Church was visiting Anna Reno and Amy N. Ferrell.

Logan Lowe had a great time visiting her friend Hope Starcher. Logan's father was taking a lot of pictures in the Creston area.

Doreen Plummer was visiting Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell and family. Doreen was in Creston for the benefit auction for the Creston Community Building. She purchased a lot of nice items using Donna Sue Ferrell's buyer's card and money. She was also looking for a man but in that department she didn't have any luck. A significant amount of money was raised for the building.

Warren Kerby, Casper Shuman, Lloyd and Jason Edwards and families, Sharon Arthur, Florence Bishop, Bob & Mae Carter and some of their family were all calling in Creston.

Mr. & Mrs. Don Rhodes were calling on Mr. & Mrs. Brian Staggs & family.

Ira & Margaret Lynch just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with a party at the home of Denver & Tammy McFarland. Those attending were Denver & Tammy, Rev. Gladson Grim, Jim, Carl, Luke & Levi Lynch, Tim Lynch and Tara Settle.

Charles Russell was consulting with Dr. Anil Singh. R. W. Arthur was also consulting his physician.

Nancy and Anna Engelke spent the weekend in Morgantown helping Kim Parrish and Jane Engelke with the Miss Teen West Virginia America Pageant. Earlier Nancy & Jane had attended a pageant in Mansfield, Ohio.

The Shimer reunion was held at the Creston Community Building. Even though it rained there was a good crowd with lots of fine food. Faye Kramer and Barbara Cooper fetched home made bread which was much in demand. Ethel Shimer Boltz was the Matriarch, she having reached the century mark on December 2. She lives at Beverly, W. Va. The youngest was Adrianne Shimer, Matthew's new daughter while Faye and Neil Kramer came the farthest from Ottawa, Illinois. Those attending included Ethel, Donald, Donald, Jr. Andrea, Polly Boltz, Matthew , Patrick and Adrianne Shimer, Faye & Neil Kramer, Barbara & George Cooper, Vergie Shimer Lemasters, Wilbur Shimer, Wendy Shimer Brown, Clayton Brown, Ethel Davis Kirby, Clarence and Deloris Davis, Jerry & Marilyn Craft, Darrell Villers, Sandy and Patrick Fowler, Patsey Villers Bower, Pat Bower, Corey Boone, Trent Boone, Dewayne Stutler & Jerry, Terry & Kathy Stutler, Waneta Helmick, Chuck Lachhurt, Lasha Stalnaker, Julia Boone, Tressie Schrader Stutler, Alva & Phyllis Starcher, Evelyn Shimer Bowman, Lois Heston, Alan, Michelle and Rachel Bowman.

Mary Reno was diagnosed as having two broken bones in her ankle. She said she was "walking in the park".

The power company folks are having rights-of-way sprayed with herbicide so that local folks can keep their levels of pesticides up without having to go far away to polluted areas. Some outfits are very helpful.

Eula Rogers Winston and husband were visiting Mr. & Mrs. R. W. Arthur. Eula said she missed the old time church services. The D-Day memorials brought back memories to her of her brother, Othel Bennett, who went over to help liberate France and did not return. Apparently, many in France, and other parts of "old Europe" have forgotten about what ordinary Americans did for them back during World War II. They also apparently didn't read in the history books about the last Mohammedan invasion of Europe.

Ohio Oil Gathering has been in Creston hauling crude oil which rose in price Friday to $35.25/bbl. It was reported that the price of natural gas has gone back up.

Mr. Dexterity reported that he took back the wedding dress that he bought at the senior citizens sale. Also it was reported that John Shafer was having difficulty with a hydraulic cylinder or, at least, one was taken for repairs up at Flatwoods.

Mr. & Mrs. Robert Lee Phillips were calling in Creston over the weekend. They also went four wheeling on Goose Creek. One fellow got in too deep and his chariot floated downstream for quite a ways.

Mr. & Mrs. George Engelke returned from a visit to Yellowstone National Park. They noted that at least half of the tourists there were Orientals and about 20% were from Germany. The regrowth after the big fire is about 8 to 10 feet tall now and things are dry there. Old Faithful was on a 100 minute schedule.

Some sort of insect pest has eaten lots of leaves off area oak trees.

Russell Richardson will hold a meeting June 29 at his tree farm on Crummies Creek concerning an invasive Asian pest, Japanese Stilt Grass. The noxious weed has become established in the Creston area. There will be several experts at the meeting and one can contact Russ to register for the event.

The Wirt County Farm Bureau will hold its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, June 22 at 8 P. M. at the road garage in Elizabeth.
