Marion G. Whisman, 87 - Mt. Zion

Marion G. Whisman, 87, of Mt. Zion, West Virginia, passed away June 13, 2004 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg following a long illness.

Born in Wolfe County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Sam and Laura Clark Whisman. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a well known sign painter and carpenter, was a devoted family man and Christian and member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. He loved to play his guitar and entertain his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Elah Starcher Whisman, two daughters, Joan Satterfield of Grantsville and Twila Roach of Parkersburg and four grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Mary; three brothers, Henry, Jack and Alford Whisman and a half brother, Bill Whisman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. Reverends Rick Swearingen and Carroll McCaulley will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Friends may call at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
