Heat getting you down? Bored? Nothing to do? Wish you could be with your friends? If you are a student anywhere from pre-Kindergarten to high school, there is a Lights On! summer program for you.

The Lights On! summer programs for students will begin Wednesday, June 23. This summer, all programs will be held at Calhoun Middle/High School.

Openings are still available for the elementary programs and for the Middle School Summer Institute. Call the Lights On! office at 354-7595 to enroll, or for further information.

At the elementary level, there will be a morning Bridges and reading program for pre-K and kindergarten students, offered the same five weeks as the Summer Academy, from June 23 through July 23.

The afternoon program, the Summer Academy, will offer a wide variety of academic and non-academic activities, with a strong emphasis on reading. Finally, there will be two week-long camps for elementary students (July 26 - July 30), an Art Camp and a Computer Camp.

The Middle School Summer Institute runs for six weeks, from June 23 to July 30. It provides a wide variety of possibilities for students who just completed grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Many students have signed up to take advantage of the free recreation, art classes, guitar lessons, lessons on a variety of wind and string instruments, and a chance to learn video editing and newscast skills.

Other students want to bolster their academic skills, to help increase their chances of success in future classes. And still others are making up one or more core courses they failed during the school year, so they can advance to the next grade when school begins in August.

There will be buses running the main routes. They will arrive at the Middle/High School at 8:30 a.m., and leave at 3:30 p.m. There will be no midday bus run. Students from Energy Express may stay and participate in Lights On! programs if parents wish.

Breakfast will be served at 8:30, and classes will start at 9. Morning classes will end at 12, and lunch will be from 12 to 12:30. Afternoon classes will run from 12:30 to 3:25.
