Mykal Johnson of Southern Pines, North Carolina, formerly of Grantsville, has been recognized as an honor student during the 2004 Commencement Ceremony of Southern Middle School. Of the 277 graduating eighth grade students, Mykal was also recognized with the Award of Excellence for Language Arts.
Mykal will be attending Pinecrest High School in the fall as an honor English/Literature and History student.
While attending Southern Middle School, Mykal has participated in his school theater guild, as well as performing with the Moore County Arts Council Theater Guild. His poetry has been published in the Fayetteville Observer. Mykal plans to continue studying drama while at Pinecrest High School.
Mykal is the son of Timothy and Shannon Smith of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
