VIENNA MAN SHOOTS COMPANION

A Vienna man was arrested on a murder charge Saturday after he reportedly shot his companion.

Matthew Dickle, 24, was charged in the death of Leanda C. Atkinson, 22, who died of a gunshot wound to the head.

A 13-year-old girl was present in the house when the shooting happened.

CHARLESTON MAN STABS AND KILLS BROTHER-IN-LAW

A Charleston man stabbed his brother-in-law to death yesterday morning in front of the dead man's wife, according to the Charleston Police Department.

Matthew Lusher, 24, was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law, Tom Haynes, 40.

All three people reportedly lived together at 609 Randolph St. on Charleston's West Side. The event started with a domestic disturbance at about 1:30 a.m.

RAND MAN SENTENCED IN AK47 SCHOOL BOARD SHOOTING

Fifty-nine-year-old Richard Bright of Rand has been sentenced in Kanawha County Circuit Court after he shot a teacher with an AK47 assault rifle during a school board meeting last summer.

Bright pleaded no contest to one count of wanton endangerment, one count of assault during the commission of a felony and one count of wanton endangerment involving an incendiary device.

Bright walked into a school board meeting last summer and doused maintenance Supervisor Jeffery Allred and personnel official Karen Williams with gasoline. The gasoline failed to ignite.

Bright then shot and wounded Capital High teacher Karen Taylor.
