ROGERS FAMILY BARELY ESCAPE HOUSE FIRE - Alerted By Smoke Detectors

(05/20/2004)

Roscoe Rogers and his wife escaped their burning house with the clothes on their back early Wednesday morning.

"We heard the smoke detectors," said Rogers. "We managed to crawl out the bedroom window, the place was full of smoke."

"If it hadn't been for the detectors, we could have burned up," he said.

The cause of the blaze was not determined.

Their Sang Run house was a total loss, although the Upper West Volunteer Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene.

Sang Run is located about five miles from State Route 16 at Minnora.

The family was unable to save any of the contents.

The 911 call was received shortly before 3 a.m.

The house was known as the old Badgett property, once occupied by Charter and Geneva Badgett.

The Arnoldsburg VFD also responded with a tanker truck.
