WALLBACK YOUTH DROWNS IN ELK RIVER

The 16-year-old Wallback boy, Daniel Lane Summers, attempted to swim across the river in the Procious area Saturday and drowned.

Witnesses said the boy, because of lack of swimming experience and fatigue, began having problems and went under, according to the State Police.

Summers was taken by ambulance to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body was then taken to the medical examiner's office.

He formerly attended Roane County High School and was an avid hunter and ATV rider.

Daniel is survived by his father and mother, Harold and Jaquline Summers of Wallback; brother and sister-in-law, Jamie and Michelle Parker of Ohio; sister, Natasha Kinter of Elkview; aunts and uncles, Diane Summers of Wallback, Janet Ciriago of Florida, Jim Summers of Florida, Sabrina Summers of Widen, W.Va., Fredie Summers and Donald Summers of Pinch and Jim Summers of Charleston; cousins, Shannon Carper, Camren Carper and Jerry Nichols of Charleston, Justin Robinson and Jamie Hughes of Widen, Ashley Ciriago and Brittany Ciriago of Florida; niece and nephews, Ariel, Devin and Colin Parker of Ohio; Nathan Kinter and many more friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
