911 DISPATCHER SHOOTS SELF

The Fayette County 911 center has a new policy prohibiting employees from bringing firearms to work, but not soon enough to help a dispatcher who reportedly accidentally shot himself in the hand while on duty.

William K. McGraw apparently was trying to unload a small-caliber handgun Thursday morning when it went off.

LOGAN SHOOTING AND BEATING

A Logan County man was in serious condition Friday night after he was shot several times during a fight.

Harold Smith was identified as the victim. State Police arrested Walker Elmore and charged him with malicious wounding.

Police said Smith beat Elmore and several other men with a board earlier Friday. He will also be charged with malicious wounding.

ALUM CREEK MAN DIES AFTER GUNSHOT

A 21-year-old Alum Creek man has died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head at his residence on Coal River Road.

Jeremy Fletcher was shot with a .22 caliber pistol, said State Police Sgt. J.A. Cox.

Police responded to a 911 call , and were unclear about the nature of the shooting.

SHOOTIN' AT HOOTERS

Police arrested a Huntington man for firing a gun in the Hooters restaurant parking lot in Kanawha City.

Christopher L. Schafer, 20, was charged with felony wanton endangerment after he pointed a silver handgun at another man and then fired it into the air.

The two men reportedly were arguing in the parking lot.

MARSHALL FOOTBALL PLAYER CHARGED

Marshall football player Jamus Martin is one of 29 people caught up in a law enforcement sweep in Huntington.

Martin has been charged with possession of less than 15 grams of a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Marshall University Police says Martin was driving erratically and was pulled over.

Officers noticed a gun in the car, which prompted a search that revealed that Martin also had marijuana in his possession.
