Paul Freeman, 76, of Spencer, died Friday, May 7, 2004 at 3:02 a.m., at his home, after an extended illness.

Mr. Freeman was born June 3, 1927, in Boone County, a son of the late Shelby and Alice Bowman Freeman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Junior Freeman and Jerry Bateman; one granddaughter, "Baby Lisa" Bateman; four brothers, Ed, Harry, Fred and Carl Freeman.

He was a retired employee of the Boone County Board of Education and a devoted Christian.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Bell Freeman of Spencer; sons, Paul Allen Freeman and Jimmy Freeman both of Pt. Pleasant, Dempsey Bateman of Parker, PA, Earl Bateman of Spencer and James Bateman of Danville; daughters, Alice Norris of Pt. Pleasant, Patty Carper of Speed, Brenda Bateman and Phyllis Hardman both of Spencer, Lisa Crislip of Looneyville and Roberta Bateman of Mt. Zion.

Brothers, Charlie, Ben, Shelby and William "Pete" Freeman all of Charleston, Taylor Freeman of Orgas and Bob Freeman of Dunbar; sisters, Shirley Lowe of Fosterville and Midge Williams of Cincinnati, OH; 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday.
