READ STORY ON JAPANESE STILT GRASS

Concern appears in order with the coming of a rapidly spreading stilt grass to Calhoun, the region and the state.

The spread of the grass has generally been ignored, but this year, thanks to the efforts of forester Russ Richardson and others, the toxic plant is getting new attention.

The grass poses a real threat to our forested lands, its trees and plants.

We suggest our readers, particularly those concerned about our woodlands, to stay on top of this issue.

Richardson says several experts are joining a cause of concern to see what can be done about the problem in West Virginia.

We will continue to report about the grass and what can be done about it.

Much could be at stake. - Bob Weaver
