Police say a Charleston woman shot her husband seven times yesterday afternoon while he was working on the family car.

He is undergoing surgery at Charleston Area Medical Center.

Neighbors said 27-year-old Crystal Patterson was upset with 38-year-old Charles Patterson for allegedly cheating on her. When police arrived, reports say the woman was still kicking and cursing him.

Police said the two had been in an argument. The wife left and returned with a gun.

After she shot him seven times, Ms. Paterson reportedly went into the house to get a beer, and returned to kick him again.

Ms. Patterson has been charged with malicious wounding.

STUDENT'S CONDITION WORSENS AFTER KNIFING

Police said a 14-year-old Stonewall Jackson Middle School student in Charleston was stabbed in the back Wednesday afternoon by another teen in a dispute over a girl.

The incident report said it began in an alleyway behind the school and the student was stabbed as he entered the building.

The condition of the student, identified by his classmates as Dorian Brown, was downgraded today from stable to critical condition.

The confrontation was between two 14-year-old boys. The suspect, who had been expelled from another school, was identified as Troy White.

Surrounded by students taking a break from the state's standardized WESTEST exam, the victim was stabbed once in the back.

Witnesses said the injured student entered the school's main office, seeking medical help while bleeding profusely and collapsing to the floor.

WOMAN SHOT, DRIVES TO HOSPITAL AND DIES

Huntington police say a woman died after being shot multiple times and crashing her vehicle on the way to the hospital.

Thirty-nine-year-old Karen Stultz of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, was shot in the leg and side Wednesday night while she was in the vehicle in an alley behind a gas station.

After Stultz was shot, she drove off and crashed into a utility pole near the entrance to Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

She died at the hospital two hours later.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with her murder, the motive is unknown.

MT. OLIVE INMATE DEAD AFTER STABBING

A Mount Olive prison inmate is dead after being attacked in the maximum security prison's yard.

Dead is thirty-eight-year-old Kevin Paul Deuley of Buckhannon who was hit with a blunt object and stabbed during an altercation Wednesday night.

The state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety did not say how many inmates were involved in the attack or whether any charges have been filed.

The state Division of Corrections and State Police are investigating the inmate's death.
