KINDERGARTEN STUDENT TAKES PISTOL TO SCHOOL IN BOOK BAG

Ohio County law enforcement officials are deciding what possible charge will be filed against an 18-year-old whose handgun turned up at a Wheeling elementary school.

A teacher at Madison Elementary School on Wheeling Island discovered a 25-caliber semi-automatic handgun in a kindergarten student's book bag last week.

Police say the student's 18-year-old sibling had reportedly used the bag the previous day and inadvertently left the gun, which had a loaded magazine but wasn't in a ready mode to be fired.

Ohio County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Pat Butler says Friday the suspect admitted to placing the handgun in the book bag, but that he didn't think his brother would take it to school.
