The Calhoun Commission has received a $7,000 grant from the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund to assist in the construction of a walking trail around Wayne Underwood Field in Grantsville.

Wayne Underwood Field has been dedicated to county residents for recreation, and is currently being used by several different organizations, including sports teams.

Commissioner Larry McCallister will attend a meeting this weekend in Charleston to present the commission's application to the Department of Transportation for additional funding. The DOT funds would be combined with the current $7,000 grant to complete the project.

The commission is continuing to pursue numerous grants to try and upgrade the field.
