BARBARA SHOCK WINS POETRY HONORS - Marshall's SCORES Competition

Calhoun High juniors and seniors traveled to Marshall University last weekend for the annual SCORES competition.

Barbara Shock earned a first-place medal in the Poetry competition for her poem "Gaia," which was submitted for consideration last winter.

SCORES is a program that gives high-achieving juniors and seniors from three states a chance to experience the Marshall University campus and meet the school's faculty.

Students compete against each other in different areas from physical fitness and knowledge to dance and advanced mathematics.

Medals are given to the students who receive the top three scores in each competition.

Calhoun High participated in: Introduction to Data Processing, Public Relations, Problem-Solving, Chemistry, Math, Sociology, and Criminal Justice.

Other participants included Chelsie Hupp, Cynthia Wildfire, Brittany Church, Kelly Brown, Samantha Parsons, Holly Moss, Kelly Badgett and Eli Walker.
