JOBLESSNESS INCREASES IN ALL WV COUNTIES

Unemployment increased in nearly every West Virginia county in January, but those areas where joblessness was worst dropped slightly. Calhoun County led eleven counties in double-digit unemployment with 15.3. Monongalia County had the lowest jobless rate. Some of the unemployment was related to the lay-off of seasonal workers. Unemployment continues to be linked to the actual loss of permanent jobs, which have been leaving the state.
