Jenn Smith was always fascinated with the magic of make-up and special effects. The 1994 Calhoun High graduate's imagination grew after she left home down on Beech in Sunny Cal to attend Mercyhurst and Glenville colleges.

She is now following a career in motion pictures.

The Calhoun woman began making prosthetic pieces and masks around Halloween for clients, but that only came around once a year.

"I really started doing make-up as a freshman at Mercyhurst College, mainly theater make-up. I continued doing that at Glenville State College and West Virginia University." she said.

Smith gives a lot of credit to Dennis and Nancy Wemm who were in charge of the theater program at Glenville State, saying "Both of them were instrumental in helping me perfect my craft."

Smith prefers doing film.

Moving to Binghamton, NY in August 2003, she met Chris Johnson who owns Misty Falls Motion Picture Company.

"He is an extremely talented individual who is a writer, producer and director," she said. He is also an accomplished make-up artist, doing the make-up for "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Drop Dead Fred."

Smith is currently working on "Revenge of Sleepy Hollow" for Johnson's production company. "I was very excited to be a part of it." she said.

The schedule calls for shooting to begin in April and finish in October so that the movie will be available by Halloween.

She will specialize in horror effects for the film.

"I have always loved horror movies and want to continue doing make-up for them. I like working with independent studios and have no desire to work with the bigger studios," she said.

She says the smaller production companies are much better to work with because they are far less interested in making a buck and more interested in the quality of the picture. In other words "They make what they want, not what sells."
